THE BROTHER FOUNDATION 
Brother International/ Clonliffe Harriers Young Athletes Foundation

   The aims of the Foundation is to provide funding to assist young athletes between the ages of sixteen and twenty-three years of age in the furtherance of their pursuit of excellence by way of financial support. This is to assist young athletes of suitable ability and required standing with travel costs to suitable events overseas and where appropriate with the purchase of specialised equipment, or with assistance towards injury rehabilitation. Brother Ireland are the patrons of the Foundation.The Foundation will be administered by a Board of three who should meet whenever required. All decisions of the Board will be decided on a simple majority basis. Any young athlete in Clonliffe Harriers has an entitlement to apply to the Board of the Foundation for appropriate funding subject to compliance with the rules of the Foundation.

Rules of the Brother Foundation
  1. The athlete completes a simple application form (see below).
  2. The athlete is aged between 16 and 23.
  3. The athlete must be a member of Clonliffe Harriers for more than twelve months.
  4. That the athlete’s application must be supported by the athlete’s coach and the appropriate club captain.
  5. The Board must be satisfied that the athlete in question is of suitable standard to participate in the particular event.
  6. The Board must be reasonably satisfied that the participation of the athlete in the required event will yield the desired outcome for both the athlete and the club in so far as this is possible.
  7. That the athlete in question is of good standing within the club.
  8. That the athlete when called upon by the club captain has either participated in or undertaken to participate in at least three of the following:
    • The Dublin Cross Country Championships
    • The National Cross Country Championships
    • The National League
    • The club’s own championships
  9. In the event of the athlete ceasing to be a member of Clonliffe Harriers within twelve months of the date of the granting of funding, then in those circumstances, the amount of funding is refundable in full by the athlete to the club.
  10. That the application for funding be made no later than four weeks prior to the event in which the athlete proposes competing.
  11. The awarding of a grant from the Foundation is entirely at the discretion of the Board whose decision is final and the Board shall not be required to give any reasons for its decision.
  12. The Club may also provide partial funding for a field athlete seeking funding for the purchase of specialised equipment. In this event, an estimate and appropriate documentation in respect of the cost of this equipment, must be submitted in advance for consideration.
  13. The Foundation may also provide funding for an athlete in respect of physiotherapy or medical bills incurred and in the event of an athlete seeking reimbursement of any such costs, receipts/ invoices in respect of payments actually made by the athlete must be submitted to the Board for consideration.
  14. The amount to be awarded by the Foundation is also discretionary and the Board shall not be required to give any reasons for its decision concerning the amount (if any) it awards.
  15. The awarding of a grant to an athlete shall be limited to one award only in each calendar year save in exceptional circumstances.
  16. An athlete’s existing level of funding may be taken into account by the Board.
