CLONLIFFE AT BMC WATFORD

There were three Clonliffe athletes at last night`s BMC Grand Prix in Watford. Mark McDonald had another good one in the 800m running a time of 1.53.3, just a shade away from his PB set a couple of weeks back, as he finished 6th in race E. Conor Healy (left) was 5th in the C 1500m in 3.51.13 while a clearly off form Dave Fitzmaurice was 18th in the 5,000 B in 15.23.33.

 
JUVENILE RELAY SQUADS SUCCESS

Clonliffe`s juvenile athletes were in action in sunny Morton Stadium this afternoon in the Dublin Juvenile 4 x 100m Relays enjoying medal success with three sets of silvers and one set of bronze medals. The boys U/12 team of Owen Burke, Luke Dalton,Darren Redmond and Keith Hodson won bronze while the boys U/16s, John Buckley, Liam Ashton, Ian Guiden and Ryan Cashel, U/17s, Aaron Wade, Patrick O`Connor, Craig Commiskey and Stuart Roche and U/18s, Graham Mahon, Patrick O`Connor, Craig Commiskey and Stuart Roche all took silvers. Hard luck to the girls U/16 team of Elaine Begley, Leah Bergin, Laurna McDonnell and Laura Preston who placed fourth.

Mountain Running Weekly Update

Round 8 of Leinster League took place on Wednesday at Scalp. Conditions were warm, dry and sunny before the race but there was a heavy shower just before the start, which made things interesting. Just over 200 runners turned out for the race, which was won by that man again Eoin Keith in a time of 24 minutes 17 seconds. The women’s race was won by Moire O’Sullivan in a time of 29 minutes 25 seconds. - MORE....

 
CLONLIFFE DUO SELECTED FOR IRELAND EURO TEAM

Great to see two of Clonliffe`s track and field stars picked for the European Team Championship (the former European Cup). David Donegan has been selected for the pole vault and John Laffey on the 4x400 relay squad. The championship brings both of them back to Solovakia this time to Banska for the June 20/21st meet. ANOTHER WEEKEND DOUBLE BY SERGIU

This weekend Sergiu Ciobanu repeated his double success on the roads of a few weekends back winning both the Kilmacow 4 mile Road Race in 19.16 and the Rathgormack 5 Mile in 20.01.

Alistair Cragg continued his Berlin build up today taking in the 3,000m in The Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon. Alistair was 5th in 7.37.84 behind winner Bernard Lagott (7.35.92).

 
KENNEALLY GOES SUB 29 AGAIN

Clonliffe`s Mark Kenneally was in international duty in the European Cup 10,000m in Ribeira Brava, Portugal yesterday. Mark had a good run breaking 29 minutes yet again finishing in 28.59.73 taking 18th place from the 34 starters. Race winner was Jose Manuel Martinez (esp) 27.57.01. Portugal took the team title. LAR BYRNE MEMORIAL CUP PRESENTED TO CLONLIFFE

At a special ceremary held in the Clonliffe clubhouse this afternoon AAI President Liam Hennessey presented the Lar Byrne Memorial Cup for the National men`s junior club cross country champions to David Fitzmaurice representing the Clonliffe junior men`s winning team of 2009. - MORE....

 
MEDAL SUCCESS AT DUBLIN JUVENILES DAY 1

The Dublin Juvenile Championships commenced in the Morton Stadium last night with the Hurdles and Hammer with Clonliffe athletes taking gold medals. Elaine Begley won the U/16 250m hurldes and Shauna Furman won the U/19 100m hurdles. In the Hammer circle Simon took gold in the boys U/15. (more updates to follow). The Championships continue in Irishtown on the 20th/21st of June.

 
CLONLIFFE ATHLETES AT IRISHTOWN GRADED

Some excellent results from last night`s graded meet in Irishtown, particularly Mark McDonald who ran 1.53.21 in the 800m A race in taking 3rd place and setting a new PB. Brett Paine was 11th in 1.57.34, Joe Cooper was 10th in his race in 2.09.01 and George Maybury 9th in his race in 2.26.56. In the women`s 800m again great runs from Becky Woods and Louise Reilly 3rd and 5th places in 2.15.71 and 2.18.82. Eric McCann was 10th in the 3,000m A in 9.29.1 and Tom Monks was 10th in his 3,000 in 10.30.40. Finally Stewart Roche was 6th in the 100m A race in 11.53. - MORE....

 
Clonliffe in Europe

With more than a few months of preparation and planning the first ever Clonliffe Harriers Track & Field team to compete together in the European Champions Club Competition was selected. After carefully monitoring the eligible athletes over the final few weeks, Club Captain Joe Cooper selected the strongest team available for our destination of Dubnica in Slovakia. With only Paul Marry (javelin) of the selected athletes not being able to make the trip the team gathered at Dublin airport on Friday morning for our 7.15am flight to Vienna. - MORE....

 
Mountain Running Weekly Update

Round 7 of Leinster League took place on Wednesday at Corrig. Conditions were warm and dry and sunny – which makes a change as it usually rains for this particular race. 160 runners turned out for the race, which was won yet again by Eoin Keith in a time of 33 minutes 11 seconds, despite completing the Wicklow Round at the weekend – a challenge to complete over 100k on the Wicklow mountains, over 27 peaks. The women’s race was won by Sonja Fuhrmann in a time of 41 minutes 17 seconds. - MORE....

ALL IRELAND SCHOOLS MEDALS FOR PAT AND JAMIE

Well done to our athletes at yesterday`s All Ireland Schools Finals in Tullamore. Pat O`Connor took silver in the Inter boys 200m in a time of 22.86 and Jamie Rossister took bronze in the Senior boys 2,000m s.c.in 6.19.6. There was double heartbreak, however, for Shauna Furman finishing 4th in both the senior girls 100m (16.19) and 400h (71.62).

 
STOP PRESS: CLONLIFFE FINISH 5th IN EUROPEANS

At yesterday`s European Club`s Track and Field Clonliffe`s men`s team finished 5th in Division B.Although we have no wins to report there were some really good performances including a number of PBs and SB performances from the lads. In the tripple jump Marco Mattiuzo jumped a PB of 14.45m for 4th place, Martin Hunt threw a hammer PB of 50.23m, Luke Mangan threw PB`s in both the Shot (13.68) and discus 37.38. Marcin Klinkosz threw a PB in the Javelin (50.67). There were season`s bests by John Laffey in the 400m (48.01), Conor Healy in the 800m ( 1.53.37)placing 2nd, Aidan Bailey 3.57.5 in the 1500, Mark Kenneally in the 3,000m 8.23.93 taking 2nd place and what may be yet another club record from Jeremy Lyons in the 400h (53.82) also 2nd.
