Top Class Event in Brussels

Dec 17, 2008 [Noel Guiden]
The City of Brussels provided an excellent venue for a top class European Cross Country Championship on Sunday the highlights of which included a magnificent Eighth Senior Men’s Cross Country win from Serhiy Lebid, a battling fourth place from Ireland’s Mary Cullen in the Senior Women’s event and numerous good performances from the Irish Athletes including our own David Flynn in the Junior Men’s race and although the hoped for medals did not materialise there is certainly a very strong base to be built upon over the coming months in preparation for Santry Demesne on the 13th of December 2009. - MORE....

GOLD FOUND IN CAVAN MUD

Dec 7, 2008 [Noel Guiden]
It was grim in Ballyhaise in the county of Cavan today for the National Juvenile Uneven ages and Novices Championships. The hard overnight frost combined very well with cattle hoof pot holes to make the ground conditions vary from poor to down right dangerous, this and the lack of facilites at the venue and the number of ankle injuries inflicted on the poor athletes well answers the age old question of why our sport fails to attract the numbers of young sports people enjoyed by other codes. After the younger Clonliffe athletes "enjoyed" their runs with a variety of stories to tell to their friends ranging from twisted ankles to lost spikes it looked like an empty handed trip home until the U/19 boys dug deep into the now ankle deep mud to suck Gold from the quadmire with superb efforts from Dave Fitzmaurice, Colm Murray, Mark McDonald, Jamie Rossiter and Tony Kavanagh to take team Gold by three points from St. Malachys and Finn Valley. - MORE....

Nov 29, 2008 [Noel Guiden]
The 2008 Clonliffe Club Cross Country Championship took place in freezing fog at Santry Demesne this afternoon. David Flynn 3rd in National Inter-Counties

Nov 24, 2008 [Noel Guiden]
There were a number of good performances from the small number of Clonliffe athletes competing in yesterday`s National Inter County Cross Country at wet and windswept Tramore Racecourse. David Flynn looks like he has earner selection for the Irish team for the Europeans in Belgium on December 14th with a fighting 3rd place finish. Eoin Pearce also ran well taking 17th place and both earned National Inter County team gold as scorring members of the Dublin team. Mark McDonald was just out of the scorring positions in 21st place. Whilst in the senior men`s race Brian McMahon, wearing the colours of County Cork was 9th and took County team silver. - MORE....

CLONLIFFE BOYS LEAD ST. AIDANS TO CBS GLORY

Nov 19, 2008 [Noel Guiden]
A superb win from Colm Murray in the senior boys race at today`s CBS All Ireland Schools in ALSAA was the highlight of some excellent runs by Clonliffe athletes in the colours of their school St. Aidans. Colm ran a very controlled race sitting comfortably in second place until making his move close to home. Not far behind in 3rd place was club mate Jordan Logue, and with Graham Mahon gritting his teeth to slug it out for 7th place these three lead St. Aidans to senior victory. - MORE....

CLONLIFFE JUVENILES DELIVER IN MARLEY MUD

Nov 9, 2008 [Noel Guiden]
Today`s Dublin Uneven Ages Cross Country Championships took place in far from ideal conditions in Marley Park, Rathfarnham. In complete contrast to last week`s Even Ages in the Autumnal sunshine of St. Annes today our athletes faced a bitterly cold wind in temperatures which bearly rose above 4 degrees and after the rain of the last few days the Marley grass quickly turned to mud. Despite this the young athletes from Clonliffe rose to the challenge and delivered superb performances bring home team Gold, silvers and bronze as well as individual gold, silver and bronze. - MORE....

Both Fintan and Ian also qualified for the Dublin Team for the Nationals. The U/16 girls finished out of the medals, however both Elaine Begley and Hannah Logue were selected for the Dublin Team. - MORE....

SPLASH OF THE DAY

Nov 1, 2008 [Noel Guiden]
Today`s Horan Cup provided another chapter in the battle to win the 2008 Grand Prix. The current top three were at it again, the mere fact of running a marathon 5 days beforehand didn`t deter these boys. Fergus Wheatley may have thought that the day would be his, as he didn`t run Dublin, however, Dave Brady and Paul Carolan in particular had different ideas. The turn out today was a significent improvement on recent races, great credit goes to the five marathon men who were not put off by the mud and deep water around the Santry Everglades this afternoon so take a bow Alan Worrall, Ernie Ramsey, Eddie Harrison, Dave and Paul. - MORE....

Marathon Monday

Oct 27, 2008 [Jeremy Walsh]
Fortunately, a respite to the bad weather greeted our marathon runners as they woke up today. In his first race over the distance, Brian McMahon was with the leading Irish group from the off. Going through halfway in just over 70 minutes, he finished with 2.27.26, and using the experience gained from this race, he'll surely take time off that in marathons to come. - MORE....
