Jul 7, 2006 [Noel Guiden] In his absence on holiday leave from the Grand Prix long time leader Philip O’Doherty lost the leaders yellow jersey in the 2006 Grand Prix Series. The 5000M race, known as “The Wine 5K” (generously sponsored by Dave Brennan) Round 9 in the Series took place in the Stadium last night. There was a pretty good turnout of 29 athletes, including non-competitors in the Series, on what was a muggy sticky night with a fairly strong breeze hitting the athletes down the home straight.

| MEDAL WINNERS AT NATIONAL UNDER 23 & Juniors |

Jul 5, 2006 [Noel Guiden] News just in that our Under 23`s and Juniors took a number of medals (in addition to the Golds of Ian Rogers and Denise Byrne) back to Santry from the Nationals in Tullamore on July 2nd. In a tie for time in the mens U/23 100m Final Danny Kavanagh took silver in 11.30. John Laffey placed fifth in that final (11.33).

Jul 3, 2006 [Noel Guiden] Clonliffe enjoyed double success in the field events at the National Junior Championships in Tullamore over the weekend. Ian Rogers won the Pole Vault with a vault of 3.80M whilst in the Women’s Javelin Denise Byrne was in superb form taking the National Title with a throw of 36.78M. Congratulations to both of them.

Jul 3, 2006 [Noel Guiden] At the Cork City Sports on Saturday 1st of July at the Mardyke Alistair Cragg was a surprise entry in the Men’s 1500M, having been entered in the 3000M. Cragg was in contention and indeed was leading at the 3rd lap however, lost ground on the 2 Kenyans to finish 3rd in a time of 3:40.71, behind Laban Rotich 3:39.98 and Paul Korir 3:40.46.

| SNEZANA ONE-TWO IN DUBLIN GRADED MEETING 28TH JUNE |

Jun 29, 2006 [Noel Guiden] Clonliffe’s Snezana Bechtina did the one-two in the Women’s 100 and 400M at last nights graded track and field meeting. Snezana won the Women’s 100M in a time of 13:12 and followed this up later on in the evening with 2nd place in the 400M in a time of 61:05 behind Templeogue’s Claire McGlynn (56:54).

Jun 25, 2006 [Noel Guiden] The Grand Prix Series remained off site, in Malahide Castle grounds to be percise , for the 8th round of 2006. This time out the athletes faced one loop around the inside wall of the grounds for the McCarrick Plate over 2 & a half miles. It was a cooler and more breezy night than for the last round two weeks previously and the runners hoped this might encourage the local bitting insect population to feast elsewhere. Although the numbers of athletes taking part was less than of late we had an almost Grand Prix only race with only one guest on the night Civil Services Mick Fennell.

Jun 25, 2006 [Noel Guiden] At the Lisburn (not Lisbon as a few envious training partners thought!) Half Marathon held on Wednesday June 20th Clonliffe`s Maurice McCrohan had his best outing to date when he took almost two minutes off his PB in placing 29th man overall and 3rd O/40 in a time of 81:55. Race winner was Joe McAllister of St. Malachys in 69:51. Maurice in addition is now a star of the small screen having recently featured on National TV in a recording of March 26th`s Connamara Marathon where he finished 3rd man.

Jun 21, 2006 [Noel Guiden] After recent PB performances by Emma Cooper, Allister Cragg,Mark Kenneally and Gary O`Hanlon to name a few, word reaches us of another Clonliffe athlete setting new standards for himself. After years of trying to break the 40 minute for 10k barrier Alan Worrall was delighted with his PB run of 38:47 recorded in The Michael Manning Memorial 10k in Dunshaughlin on Saturday night (June 17th). Tuesday night sessions are obviously paying off. Well done Alan.

| KENNEALLY VICTORY LEAPFROGS IRISH TO DIVISION 1 |

Jun 20, 2006 [Noel Guiden] Clonliffe’s Mark Kenneally had a tremendous victory in the 3000M of the Europa Cup division 2 at Banska Buistrica, Slovakia on Sunday which, coupled with victory by the 4 x 400M squad, propelled the Irish team from 4th to 2nd place and thereby gave automatic promotion to division 1 for next year.

Jun 20, 2006 [Noel Guiden] Clonliffe’s Colm Rooney won a classy 1500M at the Irish Milers Club Meet held at Irishtown on the 17th of June in a time of 3.51.47 from Eugene O’Neill (Crusaders) and Brian Farrell (Sli Chulann).

Jun 19, 2006 [Noel Guiden] Last weekend`s Dublin Juvenile Championships at the Morton Stadium provided ample evidence of the healthy state of the future of our club with outstanding performances by all our Juvenile athletes. The Championships were held over Friday, Saturday and Sunday in generally ideal conditions. As usual under the guidance of Juvenile Captain Gladys Cooper and her team there was a hugh turn out of youngsters wearing the black `n`amber. And boy did those young Harriers do themselves, their families and their club proud with medal winning performances all round and even where medals were not won these boys and girls gave it their all.

Jun 16, 2006 [Noel Guiden] The sixth graded meeting of the summer took place on Wednesday the 14th of June at the Irishtown Stadium, Ringsend, with a smattering of Clonliffe athletes taking part. Performance of the night undoubtedly goes to Emma Cooper in the 3000M when she ran a very strong race to finish 2nd and record a PB of 10:26. Emma ran a very controlled race, the race was taken out at a very fast pace by DSD’s Ashling Baker, Emma attached herself to a Raheny group consisting of Fiona McGreevy, Caitriona Hooper and Aoife Talty and over the final two laps Emma picked her Raheny opposition off one by one moving from 4th to 2nd place over the final 200M and closing at a rapid rate on Ashling Baker, however Ashling held on for the win in a time of 10:25. Emma however was rewarded with a fine PB and her fabulous form of late continues.

Jun 14, 2006 [Noel Guiden] Athletics Ireland have announced the Mens and Womens teams to take part in this weekend`s European Cup. Clonliffe athletes Anthony Mc Creery will represent Ireland in the Pole Vault and Mark Kenneally will take to the track for the 3000M. The mens team will compete in Division 2 in Banska Bystricia, Slovakia while the women travel to Prague for Division 1. Full details on www. athleticsireland.ie

Jun 9, 2006 [Noel Guiden] In perfect conditions The Michael Murphy Memorial 5 Mile Race took place in the grounds of Malahide Castle last night. A still, hot evening with the sun still high in the sky greeted the athletes on what is one of the highlights of the club season .Welcome shade was provided amongst the trees which line the route of this Summer Classic. Round 7 of the 2006 Grand Prix Series was incorporated in the race which saw an entry of 28 athletes including a number of our ladies section fresh after there exertions around the street of Dublin in Monday`s Ladies 10K. Once again Michael Murphy`s family, including his mother and sister were in attendance for the race and presentation on this the 25th running of the race in memory of a young Clonliffe Harrier who died tragically in the States back in very early `80s.

Jun 5, 2006 [Noel Guiden] Alister Cragg served notice of his intentions later on in the Summer at The Reebok Grand Prix in New York on Saturday the 3rd. of June with his fifth place, behind four Kenyans in the 5,000M .In the process he took a wopping 4 seconds off his PB to record a time of 13.08.97 propelling him to the top of the European rankings. With Gothenburg to come later in the Summer who knows....

Jun 2, 2006 [Noel Guiden] In conjunction with Graded Meeting no. 5 the Dublin Athletics Board held its Dublin Track Championships for both senior and master athletes at the Morton Stadium, Santry on Wednesday the 31st of May. There were some excellent performances by Clonliffe athletes, in particular by Conor Healy, David Brennan and Philip O’Doherty and by our sprinters Daniel Tobin and John Laffey.
