DUBLIN TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS MAY 31ST

In conjunction with Graded Meeting no. 5 the Dublin Athletics Board held its Dublin Track Championships for both senior and master athletes at the Morton Stadium, Santry on Wednesday the 31st of May. There were some excellent performances by Clonliffe athletes, in particular by Conor Healy, David Brennan and Philip O’Doherty and by our sprinters Daniel Tobin and John Laffey. - MORE....

 
IRISHTOWN MILERS CLUB MEET

Mark Kenneally still chases the European 5,000m qualifying time after Saturday night`s Irish Milers Club meeting. Mark ran a time of 14:16.18 to take second place behind Slavko Petrovic (Croatia) 13:53.94 leaving himself well short, at this early stage of the season, of the required 13:42, no doubt however with Mark`s other committments behind him now he will give it his best shot. Gary O`Hanlon also ran solidily to 6th in a time of 14:34.33. At the same meet Colm Rooney continues his comeback in taking second place in the 800m in 1:54.01, young Conor Healy placed 8th in that race recording 1:57.16.

Last night`s Clonliffe 2 was the 115th consective running of this classic on a good running night , the "summer " rains had cleared for an hour or two and there was a faviourable tail wind from Finglas all the way down to Glasnevin. Up front Tallaght AC `s David Byrne prevailed over our own Cian McLoughlin ,to take the Tommy Burton Memorial Cup in a time of 9:23 a 2 second margin. GREAT PERFORMANCES IN TRACK & FIELD INCLUDING YET ANOTHER NATIONAL JUNIOR RECORD

Over the course of the past week there have been some superb performances by Clonliffe’s athletes in the Dublin Graded Meet held on Wednesday last, the KitKat Leinster Schools held on Saturday where pride of place goes to Anthony McCreery, competing for his school Belvedere in the pole vault which Anthony won in a new national junior record of 4.75M, and in Sunday’s AAI Games. - MORE....

 
DAVID BRENNAN 2ND IN DUBLIN 10,000M C’SHIP & LAST NIGHTS GRADED

At the Dublin 10,000M C’ship held with last nights graded meeting Clonliffe’s David Brennan finished 2nd in the Senior championship Race to take county silver in a time of 34:51. Originally it was intended that the Dublin Masters C’ship would also be held in conjunction with that race but in view of the low numbers it was unclear as to whether the Masters C’ship was actually taking place. There was also a full programme of graded track and field events which featured a number of excellent performances from our athletes. - MORE....

Summertime and the running is easy....not if it`s May in Santry. Another wet ,cold and murky night for The Grand Prix Series. Round 5, The Santry Demesne Mile took place in the park last night. GREAT DAY`S SPORT FOR ALL ON CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY

Clonliffe`s club track and field championships takes place on Sunday week, the 7th of May commencing at 3:00pm. The club`s captains and coaches have planned an extensive programme of events for all ,from juveniles to masters featuring a full range of athletic events from 80m to 5,000m as well as field events. The final event of the day is the mens 1500m scheduled for 5:40pm and this will be followed by the presentation of Clonliffe Club Championship medals ,these are beautiful specially commissioned medals which are gauranted to be treasured by the winners over the years to come.Food and refreshments will be available at the presentation in the club bar.All club members are encouraged to take part in the championships either as competitor ,official or supporter.The club would also be delighted to see as many family members and friends as possible turn up in Santry on the day. - MORE....

 
MAURICE AHERN WINS 3000 GRAND PRIX

The quest for the Yellow Jersey continuted at last night`s 3000m in Santry with round 4 of the 2006 Grand Prix. Once again there was a hugh turn out of athletes both "the grand prixers" and other club members and when the numbers were crunched the victory went to Maurice Ahern. - MORE....

At the great BUPA Ireland 10K Run held in the Phoenix Park on Sunday the 9th of April Clonliffe’s Mark Kenneally was in inspirational form taking on Aussie Craig Mottram for 7K of the event, ultimately finishing 2nd in a fabulous 29:17 leaving Mark Carroll 2 seconds in his wake, along with other seasoned internationals Lebid of the Ukraine, Petrovic of Croatia and Shabunin of Russia. - MORE....

National Mens Relay Champions

The National Road Relay Championships took place today in Raheny with Clonliffe represented by no less than 7 teams .Our mens team proved too strong for the opposition to add this particular National title to the National Senior Cross Country title won on Feb. 25th. - MORE....

AISLING COPPINGER WINS THE ULTRA RACE IN CONNEMARA

The Connemara Marathon which includes a half marathon and an ultra marathon was held on Sunday the 26th of March over an exceptionally demanding hilly course – they don’t do things on the flat out west. This is a race which has continued to grow in popularity for the sadists amongst us. A sizeable Clonliffe contingent made the long journey west for the weekend. - MORE....

 
SEAN O’FURMAN NATIONAL INDOOR JUVENILE CHAMPION

At the weekend’s National Indoor Championships held at Nenagh there were a number of very good performances by Clonliffe’s young athletes, pride of place goes to Sean O’Furman who won the 60M hurdles. At the same championships Tony Kavanagh was 3rd in the Boy’s U/17 1500M with Colm Murray 4th in the same race.

 
MARK KENNEALLY WINS RAS na hEIREANN IN MASSACHUSETTS

Clonliffe’s Mark Kenneally set a new course record at the Ras na hEireann held in Somerville, Massachusetts in the United States on the 19th of March in taking victory in the 5K Road Race in a time of 14:19, breaking the previous record held by Keith Kelly by all of 5 seconds. - MORE....
